| Shiver was one of the best Golden Retrievers I have ever owned. Even from a puppy, she was calm and well behaved. I took her mother, Angel, to a breeder in Kansas to a beautiful European "Cream" Golden Retriever named Rico. From that litter, I kept this gorgeous girl. We bred her to Shiloh after getting her health clearances and were eager to see her gorgeous puppies. However 5 days before her impending due date, she began acting unusual. She had grown to an enormous size, and so we concluded she was not feeling well due to the numerous puppies. The next day, there was no doubt something was not right. I rushed her to the vet, only to have her collapse and die in the parking lot. The vet did all he could to save her, to no avail. We decided to at least try and save the puppies via c-section. She had 12 puppies in her and we saved 5 beautiful girls. It was determined that Shiver died from toxicity due to the large litter she was carrying. I am still devastated to have lost such a wonderful girl! Let this be a reminder to those that think they want to breed just for the "fun of it." Raising orphaned puppies and losing a treasured pet is not fun!!! Please leave breeding to experienced breeders. |
